About Chris M. “Matt” Dillon

I am attorney Chris M. “Matt” Dillon, a seventh generation Texan whose roots stretch back to my great-great-great-great-grandfather, Gordon C. Jennings, who perished defending the Alamo. Raised in Bastrop, I graduated from Bastrop High School in 1990. Furthering my education, I received my B.B.A. in accounting in 1994 from Baylor University. I went on to study at Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University) graduating with an M.B.A. in 1996. While working toward my MBA, I worked full-time as a substitute teacher for the Bastrop Independent School District, then as an analyst with the Texas Workers’ Compensation Insurance Fund and as a tax examiner with the IRS.

Following a childhood dream, I began law school in 1997 at St. Mary’s University School of Law. I earned my Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.) degree a full semester early and graduated in 1999. While at St. Mary’s, I received a certificate of completion for the program of studies on global legal issues at the University of Innsbruck, Austria, under the direction of my professors and the chief justice of the United States Supreme Court, the Honorable William H. Rehnquist.

I was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in May 2000. In my first year as a lawyer, I served as an appellate briefing attorney for the 7th Court of Appeals of Texas in Amarillo under the direction of the Honorable Justice Don H. Reavis. I had previously served as a legal intern for the Honorable John T. Boyd, chief justice of the Seventh Court of Appeals of Texas in 1998.

Upon completion of my one-year commitment with the court, and in true country lawyer fashion, I returned to Bastrop and opened a private law practice where I continue to protect the civil liberties of individuals from all around the state of Texas. I am proud to have had my efforts recognized by Super Lawyers*.

*Super Lawyers selects attorneys using a patented multiphase selection process. Peer nominations and evaluations are combined with independent research. Each candidate is evaluated on 12 indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement. Selections are made on an annual, state-by-state basis. The objective is to create a credible, comprehensive and diverse listing of outstanding attorneys that can be used as a resource for attorneys and consumers searching for legal counsel. Since Super Lawyers is intended to be used as an aid in selecting a lawyer, we limit the lawyer ratings to those who can be hired and retained by the public.
